While many welcome news that Chonburi has more than
enough water to make it through the year, the brimming reservoirs have
created their own problems.
At a June 29 meeting of provincial administrators,
Provincial Waterworks Authority representatives said the increase in
reservoir levels - which surpassed last year’s surplus - incited in an
increase in algae growth. That has depressed oxygen levels, which impact
fish, and increased the amount of manganese in the water, resulting in
yellow, red and brown water being dispensed.
PWA officials said they are working the on the problem
and are already seeing positive results.
In other business, the council of district administrators
and Chonburi’s governor and deputy governor reviewed plans for a “unity
blessings fair” to run Dec. 5-8 in honor of HM the King’s 84th birthday. And
the Office of Agriculture and Cooperation said 17 public and private units
were working on 96 activities related to the development of Yannasangwararam
Temple.
Finally, the Chonburi Public Health Office said it was
still monitoring province hospitals for cases of Influenza A H1N1 but that
no cases of the flu that swept the world in 2009 have been reported.
