Banglamung Police institute zero tolerance
Police Colonel Kasem Sangkhaphan has told his troops to
‘get tough’ on certain criminal groups in the community. The Colonel stated
the new policy was zero tolerance for hired gunmen, influential figures, and
amphetamines and related substances. Instituting this new policy will be
especially critical during the campaign and election period to ensure the
elections are conducted in an orderly manner.
The
Banglamung police are readying roadblocks, checkpoints, patrol cars and
motorcycles to prevent any unfavourable incidents from occurring during this
period. Protection is also being provided for the candidates.
Security is being readied at all election points. Government officials,
police officers and employees of government enterprises are asked not to
propound, profess or in any way show a political bias, as it would not be
ethical for government employees.
The drug problem is being managed by a special unit of the Crime Suppression
Division. The unit’s aim is to find drug dealer’s hideouts, manufacturing
laboratories and addicts. The Colonel admitted the CSD usually has problems
with drug related arrests because arrested parties are usually petty users
who refuse to reveal their sources.
