Candidates injured in suspicious crash

The crashed water truck after
it came to rest under the Dusit Resort sign in North Pattaya.
During what PollWatch has called the “dirtiest election
ever”, the two top Democrat Party candidates in Chonburi Constituency 3
(Pattaya), Pramual Embia and Paisal Thanomsakyuth, were both slightly
injured in a suspicious automobile accident while campaigning in Pattaya.
Three other people in the car also suffered minor injuries.
The two candidates and their party were completing their campaigning when a
10 wheel water truck swung out of control and struck their pickup at the
North Pattaya Road round-a-bout. Both candidates were thrown out of the back
of the pickup, landing near a guard booth in front of the Dusit Resort
Hotel.
Crying foul, the Democrat Party candidates claimed the accident was an
intentional attempt to sabotage their campaign. They cried that the
competition knew they couldn’t win honestly, and went so far as to try and
take people’s lives. After Pramual had recovered from the initial shock he
shouted, ‘Why was our truck the only vehicle hit when there were other cars
all around us. There is something suspicious about the whole thing.’ Mr.
Pramual said he would have police look into the matter as he no longer felt
safe campaigning.
However; police inspecting the scene could not concur with the accusations
and concluded that the accident was most likely just that, an accident. The
out of control truck that hit them also plowed into the hotel’s sign, and
the driver of the truck was also injured. When police pulled him from his
vehicle they found him to be in an intoxicated state. When he was
questioned, he insisted that his brakes were faulty.
Newly re-elected Chart Thai MP Sansak Ngarmphiches confirmed that the
accusations were false. He said there was no reason for his party to do such
a thing, and reiterated that it was an unfortunate happening at an
inopportune time.
