Transportation and tourism officials will study Pattaya’s
marine-transport services to formulate a new marine-safety plan that can
be utilized around the country.
Deputy Transport Minister Phongchai Kasemthaweesak and Chonburi Deputy
Gov. Vorawit Saisuphanphol launched the data-collection initiative Oct.
10 at the A-One Royal Cruise Hotel along with operators of tourist-boat
services in the city.
Pattaya has been designated as the pilot project to record data to
analyze risks to safety. Data collected will be summarized and used to
set standards to elevate marine safety.
Officials said awareness must be raised among tour-boat operators about
safety. A “marine safety lover” award will be created to reward
individuals and organizations with influential roles in developing
marine safety.
The meeting closed with marine officials allowing boat operators to
trade in old life vests to obtain newer, safer models.
