Football channels good energy

Editor;
Re: Pattaya United teach football to Kamphaeng Phet students (PM Friday, 10 October 2014) - Football is a wonderful way of channeling good energy into and out of young people. Playing football that is. The spectator sport is used to hypnotize the masses so they don’t figure out other pressing issues of the day.

Please use environmentally friendly krathongs

Aloha Editor;
It’s that time of year again to celebrate Loy Krathong. One of the primary reasons for this celebration is to worship the goddess of the water in the expression of gratitude for the life that water gives throughout the year.
Please think twice before buying a krathong if the base is made from Styrofoam. It can and does kill our marine life, freshwater fish and waterfowl, turtles, dolphins.
Our lakes, oceans and rivers are already having a big problem from the flooding of storm drains and water resources, due to weather conditions.
The traditional krathong is a raft with a diameter of about the size of a hand. Most bases were made from the banana stalk, while some are made of bread and sometimes, sad to say, made of foam.
The Pollution Solution group recommends the bread base, because, whilst many krathongs are lost in the rivers, oceans and lakes, bread will eventually become food for fish and other animals. Even though banana stalks are biodegradable, they take a little longer to decompose and will not harm the environment.
We ask you not to buy the Styrofoam krathongs, as you would be adding to the problems. Please look around; there are many very deserving krathong makers that care, use bread or banana stalks and deserve your sale. They all have been decorated with exquisitely folded banana leaves, flowers, candles, incense, etc.
Many people feel that the transmission of Loy Krathong to water rids one of problems and helps with relationships. For whatever one’s reason is to celebrate, please also consider the environment. Enjoy Loy Krathong and please think about Mother Nature and all living things when you buy a krathong.
Khop khun khrup, mahalo, thank you,
The Pollution Solution Group along with Pattaya City Hall.

He is still the main man

Editor;
Re: Briton arrested for paralyzing February assault on employee - (PM Friday, 10 June 2011) - He is still the main man at Thailand Holiday homes and evaded justice as his case was dismissed. I wonder how or what made that happen? People will make up their own minds as to his morals. He gets other people to work for him as a ‘public face’ of his company but he still pulls all the strings. I wonder how many buyers know the kind of person they are dealing with.

Nothing about honesty

Editor;
Re: ‘Pattaya White’ anti-drug program kicks off 2nd year (PM Friday, 10 October 2014) - “Work hard, work fast, work creatively” - nothing is mentioned about transparency, diligence and honesty. If city hall provided sports activities, clubs and social improvement classes the kids would have free time better used. Learn them the facts of riding on the wrong side with no helmet is actually dangerous and the fact that Buddha is not there for you for doing such an act.

Silly contractor

Editor;
Re: PEA contractor takes easy way around power-pole problem in Jomtien (PM Friday, 10 October 2014) - Silly contractor. Didn’t he remember that the center of sidewalks are reserved for erecting telephone booths?

Nothing has changed in Bangkok

Editor;
Re: Pattaya’s overhaul of motorbike-taxi sector stuck in neutral (PM Friday, 10 October 2014) - I can assure you, after spending a few days in Bangkok last week, nothing has changed in Bangkok. All taxis that I tried to get were flat rate, and not one would use the meter, until the last day when I had the hotel locate a taxi for me that would use the meter.

Regular beach cleanups needed

Editor;
Re: Should be done weekly (PM Mailbag Friday, 03 October 2014) - I must agree with the above, (beach cleanups) should be done regularly and by local government employees in conjunction with some solid enforcement with hefty fines against those that deposit the litter in the first place.

Dreams of the 3 baht songthaew fare returning

Editor;
Re: Many already use 2nd Rd as 2 way (PM Mailbag Friday, 10 October 2014) - 20+years ago when I first came to Thailand 2nd Road was one way heading north from Pattaya Tai to Pattaya Klang. From there it was two way to Dolphin Roundabout. It was possible to travel by songthaew from Naklua down 2nd Road as far as Pattaya Klang then turn right or left. After becoming one way, Big C lost so much custom that songthaews with the lower section of windscreen painted yellow were allowed to travel against the traffic using the left lane. This didn’t last long. City Hall has a lot to answer for in regard to planning. I guess I can dream of the B3 songthaew fare returning!
