Patcharapol Panrak

The Electrical Generating Authority of Thailand has donated 2,400 electric caps to the Royal Thai Navy to use to construct undersea artificial reefs.

EGAT Assistant Operations Manager Suthon Bunprasong presented the caps to Vice Adm. Pongsak Puriroj as a gift to celebrate HM the Queen’s 80th birthday at the Prince Chumphon Monument Aug. 23.

Suthon said the expired caps were deemed by a Naresuan University study as an item that could be recycled to benefit the environment. Coral will bond with the material with no ill effects on the animals or the sea, he said.

Pongsak thanked EGAT for honor Her Majesty with the donation and said the navy will use the caps as quickly as possible in an underwater habitat project.
