Firefighters hose down

Two people were injured and traffic paralyzed when a
cement truck plowed into the side of a chemical tanker on Sukhumvit Road in
Thungkrad.
Police and two fire engines from Laem Chabang shut down
three lanes of traffic at kilometer marker 131-132 Aug. 21 while authorities
washed down the roadway to disperse about 200 liters of n-butyl chloride, a
foul-smelling liquid used in plastics manufacturing.
Prasert Sawasdee, the 48-year-old driver of the Better
Concrete Products Co, and his passenger wife Narumol Tilakul, 53, were hurt
when their truck overturned. They were transported to Banglamung Hospital
for treatment.
About 50 meters from the cement truck laid the overturned
six-wheeled tanker owned by KB Shipping Co.
Driver Pratheep Thetwong, 40, said he was transporting
the chemical from Laem Chabang Port to a Maptaput Industrial Estate factory
when the cement truck broadsided him. Prasert told police a car he couldn’t
describe nor give a license plate for had cut him off.
