City workers take turns
descending into the drains to do the dirty work, passing up sand to be
hauled away.
Vittaya Yoondorn
City workers continued efforts to unblock Pattaya’s
storm-drainage system, this time sucking out drains on Third Road.
Sanitation Department employees later worked in front
of the Ping Pub Aug. 21, opening drain covers and sucking sand, garbage
and twigs out of pipes to prevent backups during heavy rains.
Department Director Wirat Jiraphaithun said the clear
drains will help water flow to the city’s water-treatment plants.
The workers opened each drainage cover along Third
Road in central Pattaya, checking and inspecting pipes. Employees took
turns going underground to do the dirty work, passing up sand to be
hauled away.
Worker Narong Sareepant said the need for the work
became obvious after recent rain resulted in drains turning into geysers
of backed up water.
Anyone needing drains near them cleaned can contact
the 1337 Pattaya Call Center.
