Thailand’s “road show” aimed at attracting
international meetings and conventions to Pattaya makes its first stops
Feb. 1-3 in Japan.
Tourism Authority of Thailand Pattaya Director Niti
Kongkrut and Pattaya Business & Tourism Association President Jamroon
Vitsavachaipan announced the Tokyo and Fukuoka stops on the “Thailand
MICE Road Show 2011” at a Pattaya City Hall press conference Jan. 24.
The Thailand Convention & Exhibition Bureau organized
the Asian and European road show to urge businesses to “believe in
Thailand” and bring their MICE - meetings, incentives, conventions and
exhibitions - business to Pattaya. Trade shows in Australia, Dubai,
Shanghai, Germany, Spain and the United States are also planned.
Niti said meetings and conventions not only can boost
the country’s overall tourism, but “publicize the efficiency and
readiness of Thailand to be an international convention organizer.”
Indeed, TCEB’s domestic MICE campaign carries a theme
of “Confidence in Thailand’s Readiness” while the international slogan
tries to put aside foreign visitors fears by urging them to “Believe in
Thailand.”
“Pattaya officials believe the MICE segment provides
a good opportunity to revive and solve Thailand’s economic problems,”
Niti said. “We will target businesses by arranging appointments and
business meetings with travel purchasers in Japan. We hope they will
stage events in Pattaya and create new opportunities to promote goods
and services to groups of business people planning MICE events.”
