Collectors flocked to the Pattaya Indoor Sports Arena for evaluations
and prizes for this year’s Buddhist amulet preservation show.
Culture Minister Sonthaya Kunplome joined his brother, Pattaya Mayor Itthiphol
Kunplome, and Numchaichana Deewee, president of the Eastern Thai Buddha Image
Admiration Association, to open the Oct. 26-27 show on Soi Chaiyapruek 2.
The event allowed amulet and image owners to obtain certification of their items
for the small entry fee. In addition, they can enter their items into a contest
to be judged. Items were photographed and certificates issued were set to be
issued within 45 days.
The exhibition featured 55 tables where judges evaluated amulets and images and
almost 2,000 categories to compete in. Top prizes in two categories were 1
baht-weight in gold and a “immortal amulets” book.
Winners in all categories received trophies from the culture minister.
A portion of the proceeds raised at the show will go to charity.
