High spirits prevail as Pattaya celebrates Halloween

Somporn Naksuetrong (center), vice president of the Royal Garden Plaza, brings out the ghosts, ghouls and goblins to begin the Halloween Fancy Costume Contest.

Staff reporters
Ghouls and goblins once again were out in full force, celebrating Halloween in the usual Pattaya fashion. Tourists and residents alike haunted hotels, restaurants and nightlife districts.
On Walking Street, business owners decorated their establishments with ghost figures, dark curtains, haunted posters and employees in full makeup. The more elaborate shops created that spooky feeling with music and lights, plus the occasional ghoul popping out of a dark corner.
Revelers filled the street in costumes of their own, giving the city a festive feeling that permeated the walls of luxury resorts and shopping malls.
Ripley’s Believe It or Not! in the Royal Garden Plaza threw a unique Halloween party filled with monsters from its Haunted Adventure attraction. The amusement center ran a costume contest with 25 ghouls competing for 50,000 baht in Royal Garden gift certificates.

Contestants in the Zulu Bar’s scary costume contest, won by the youngster in the middle, perform their scariest dance moves for the judges.

Nisuth Phuthong took the grand prize for her “Bupha Ratree”-themed ghost-student dress. Fahprathan Pholaahan took second prize as a foreign ghost child while Naruemol Sukhyuu took third place for dressing up as a zombie from the Resident Evil movies and video games. Fourth place was awarded to Phitcha Saetang who dressed up as ‘Nangmai Ghost’, an ancient Thai ghost that scared the wits out of the spectators.
Down the road, the Hard Rock Cafe threw a distinctly morbid Halloween bash using the theme “Dead & Beloved Rockers Night.” Costume-contest hopefuls dressed up as deceased music stars, with prizes awarded both for kids and adults.
Malisa Steinhoff was scariest child contestant, winning a free birthday party for 10 kids at the Hard Rock Cafe. The adult category was won by Alisa Panprasom, who took home 5,000 baht and a dining voucher.
In Naklua, the Centara Grand Mirage Beach Resort offered its own Halloween happening at its Zulu Bar. Its family-friendly party saw the upscale hotel decorated with skulls, coffins and eyeballs with ghosts and goblins serving food and drinks. The hotel put on a “funky, funny ghost” show and dances by female monsters.

Aye matey, ‘twas a good night for scaring people. This pirate and his two sexy companions blended quite well into the Halloween scene on Walking Street.

Can I give you a hand with that?

Shock! Spirits are captured in a photograph taken at the Hard Rock Cafe.

Ghouls, ghosts and goblins invade the Tavern by the Sea at the Amari Orchid Pattaya.

It’s Scary Movie the Sequel in the Zulu bar at Centara Grand Mirage Beach Resort Pattaya.

Just another typical night on Walking Street?

The Wicked Witch of the West and Cowardly Lion were spotted on Walking Street looking for the Yellow Brick Road.
