Thammasat student teachers to take over Pattaya’s free
foreign-language courses

Mayor Itthiphol Kunplome
(center) and Weerangrong Bunnooch announce the foreign-language classes
the city will be offering in the new year.
Thanachot Anuwan
Thammasat University next year will take over foreign-language
classes offered by Pattaya City Hall with promises to employ graduates
of at least one course.
Mayor Itthiphol Kunplome said Oct. 18 that the university’s Pattaya-area
campus will teach Russian, Chinese and English courses. The first
100-hour weekend course will begin Jan. 20 at Pattaya School No. 8.
Weerangrong Bunnooch, who has headed the free courses offered by the
city since 2011, spoke to Thammasat student teachers on course
development, standards and correct usage.
Itthiphol said the upgraded course will serve as a farm system for
Russian-speaking translators and tour guides who could be employed by
city hall.
The city’s Non-Formal Education Office will continue to oversee the free
courses, which will open registration from Jan. 20-25. Previous winter
classes began in early February with teaching done Saturdays and Sundays
for four hours each day.
Each class is limited to 50 students. Those who have taken the course
previously are barred from re-enrolling. The courses are free, but
require a Thai identification card. For more information, call
038-253-281 or the 1337 Pattaya Call Center hotline.
