Funeral services are underway for the revered abbot of Nong Krab
Bankhai Temple who passed away Sept. 18 in Bangkok.
Manun Thumawat, better known as Luang Poh Sakorn, died of emphysema at
Samitivej Hospital. He was 75.
Funeral services, which conclude this week, were planned even before the
monk’s body was returned to the temple. Monks trimmed trees and prepared
the grounds while Sujit Sukhkerd, the Nongbua sub-district chief,
brought in landscaping equipment to prepare for the public ceremony.
Following the funeral, his body will be kept on display for followers to
pay respect for 100 days.
A well-known monk in the Eastern Seaboard, Manun was the leading
disciple of Luang Pu Tim Issariko from Larnrai Temple. He was taught by
several famed monks, including Luang Peng Sasano from Laharnyai Temple
and Luang Pu Suk from Klong Makhaom Thao Temple.
The abbot had been ill for some time, entering the hospital the last
time on Sept. 4.
