A Sattahip man has been arrested for allegedly impersonating a
government official to solicit sponsorships for a fake football match.
City officials and police apprehended Saran Mokkhasak, 28, Sept. 17,
charging him with forgery of official documents and impersonating a
Sattahip Permanent Secretary’s Office staffer.
Sattahip Mayor Phawat Lertmukda said he’d received complaints that
someone from the office had been soliciting businesses for 15,000 baht
donations to the “11th Anti-Drug Football Tournament,” presenting an
official-looking government document carrying Phawat’s name.
More than 100 businesses were scammed, the mayor said.
Police said Saran confessed, admitting he’d recently been released from
prison where he served time for forgery. Police said he also admitted to
other schemes, such as supposedly being able to arrange military
transfers or help students pass university exams.
