Tourist Police upgrade services for coming high season

Top Tourist Police officials roll out the new mobile police unit on Walking Street.

Boonlua Chatree
Pattaya Tourist Police have rolled a new mobile unit that will replace the minivan long stationed at the mouth of Walking Street to provide better service for the coming high season.
Commander Lt. Col. Arun Promphan unveiled the mobile unit at a Sept. 18 press conference at the Siam Bayshore Resort. The new truck is equipped with Wi-Fi and other technology to allow officers and volunteers to provide 24-hour service. Future mobile units are planned for Hua Hin, Phuket and Ayutthaya, he said.
Maj. Gen. Roy Inkapairoj, head of the national Thailand Tourist Police, said all stations are upgrading their services to offer road-safety tips, a smartphone app to provide information and request assistance, officers using Segway scooters for increased mobility, and information in Chinese, Russian, Korean and Japanese.
