Hoping to boost the local fish population, Pattaya
plans to create artificial reefs from old drainage pipes off Jomtien and
Naklua beaches.
At an Oct. 10 meeting, Deputy Mayor Ronakit Ekasingh
said the 1.5 million baht project aims to increase the fertility of the
local seas and grow the amount of aquatic life to promote tourism and
support fishermen.
Initial plans call for concrete pipes accumulating on
Jomtien Beach to be dumped off beaches between March and May next year.
Should the national Department of Fisheries give speedy approval of the
project, the start could be moved up to January, he said.
