A Swiss man and his Thai wife were attacked by thieves at
a friend’s business last week, sending the man into a coma.
49-year-old Swiss, Martin Moeklin sustained serious
injuries in the beating, and at press time was still in guarded condition at
Bangkok Hospital Pattaya.
His wife, Saichol Moeklin, 26, received bruises to her
face and lacerations to her legs. She was treated and released.
Saichol told police that she and her husband were looking
after a friend’s dogs whilst the friend was away on holiday. The dogs were
being kept at the friend’s auto paint shop on Route 36 on the
Krathinglai-Rayong bypass, and when they arrived to feed the dogs on Oct.
18, they noticed a white Mitsubishi with Rayong license plates parked in
front, which was completely filled with tires.
At first they didn’t suspect anything, but when feeding
the dogs, they heard noises coming from inside. When Moeklin went to
investigate, he was met by 4 or 5 men rummaging through the garage. When
they saw Moeklin, two of the men attacked him with wooden clubs.
Saichol said she begged them to stop, and jumped on top
of her husband to protect him, but she said they continued the beating,
injuring her as well.
She said the thieves made off with over 4,000 baht and
her husband’s credit cards before fleeing towards Rayong.
The culprits remain at large.
