About 20 Sattahip organizations met to develop solutions to illegal
foreign labor and human trafficking in the district.
Rear Adm. Tee Upanisakorn, chief of staff for the Sattahip Naval Base,
presided over the July 18 meeting, the fourth joint session of the year
on the labor problems.
Fleet command and information officer Capt. Khomsan Upalanon said the
meetings were organized in response to the National Council on Peace and
Order’s directive to rid the kingdom of illegal foreign workers.
The agenda saw officials explain the guidelines for solutions and
describe the current labor situation through the use of guest speakers
from the Chonburi Provincial Employment Office and the province’s
one-stop labor-service centers.
Participants exchanged opinions on illegal labor agencies which
contribute to human trafficking in the area, especially Samae San and
Bang Saray’s fishing industry.
Rear Adm. Tee said Thailand is facing increasing problems with drugs,
crime, and social conflict. Human trafficking adds to those problems, he
said. Thus the NCPO is pushing to eliminate the problems.
