Runners in Sunday’s Pattaya King’s Cup Marathon will see plenty of
security as they race through the city for more than 300,000 baht in prize
money.
Deputy Mayor Ronakit Ekasingh reviewed safety and security plans July 10
with Pattaya police, civil-defense volunteers, public health workers, staff
from Pattaya and Banglamung hospitals, and the Sawang Boriboon foundation.
Pattaya has allocated police officers, civil-defense officers, and
foundation staff to man intersections, curves, reverse points, entrances and
other spots along the entire 42.2-kilometer course, and will partially close
roads to provide facilities and safety to runners.
The marathon route starts and finishes on Beach Road near the intersection
with Central Road, so that section of Beach Road will be closed for the
entire event, from 3 to 9 a.m. For the rest of the course, police will close
the left lane on all roads used in the marathon. Roads affected by this
include North Pattaya Road, Sukhumvit Highway, Central Pattaya Road, South
Pattaya Road, Soi Wat Boonsamphan in Jomtien, Soi Na Jomtien 2, Jomtien
Beach Road, Thappraya Road, the bottom of 3rd Road leading to Bali Hai pier,
and along Beach Road back to the start finish at Central Plaza. Parts of 3rd
Road will also be closed, from Central Road to North Pattaya Road for the 5k
fun run.
Trail cars will follow each group, race referees will travel on bicycles and
three medical units will be staged along the route. There also will be
police and mobile restrooms.
