Pattaya’s huge Russian population now has its own
tourist-assistance center, staffed by native speakers to help visitors
needing police assistance and general information.
Banglamung District Chief Sakchai Taengho and Pattaya Deputy Mayor
Ronakit Ekasingh were on hand for the privately-run Russian Convenience
Center’s July 17 opening in Jomtien.
Owner Illia Miasnikov and Manager Oleg Tarasov said the center was
started to act as an intermediary to help Russians communicate with
police and to provide Russian-language tourist information.
Miasnikov said the center will be staffed by native
Russian speakers as well as Thai officers fluent in Russian. The center
will contact Pattaya’s Crime Protection and Suppression officers in case
of legal problems, make complaints from tourists and help mediate
disputes hampered by language difficulties.
“This will help build confidence for Russian tourists vacationing or
investing in Pattaya, as it will help ease difficulties in tourism and
business communications,” Sakchai said.
The center is located at 380/31-32 Moo 12 Jomtien Second Road and is
open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. weekdays. For information, call 038-059-658.
