How much baht is lost?
Editor;
Re: Alcohol sales banned July 22-23 (PM Friday, 19 July 2013) - It would be
interesting to know how many millions of baht the Thai tourist industry
loses due to this ridiculous alcohol ban. I have 4 friends staying with me
for a month and we’re going to Cambodia for 5 days because of the alcohol
ban. We would have stayed in Pattaya otherwise.

Re: Officials promise crackdown on Beach Road vehicle-rental agents (PM
Friday, 19 July 2013) - Can we file this promise in the same cabinet with
eliminating the jet-ski mafia & reducing the ladyboy menace? Or the one with
the money spent on crosswalks that pedestrians are afraid to use given all
vehicles don’t stop. Or maybe the file about the money spent on security
CCTV camera’s that don’t work, not manned, or have been vandalized. I love
all the improvements for the betterment of Pattaya, just wish I see some of
them.

Why is he ranting?
Editor;
Re: Pheu Thai confident that Rice Pledging Scheme has improved farmers’
quality of life (PM Wednesday, 17 July 2013) - Just on TNN TV about a week
ago, an old woman-victim of the flood disaster at Pang Nga was complaining
that she received bags of rancid rice, as flood disaster relief, distributed
by Pheu Thai Spokesperson Prompong Nopparit himself. So wtf is Prompong
Nopparit ranting about? Yingluck’s Rice Pledge Scheme is contaminated
definitely - by corruption, ineptitude, sleaze and yes, toxic chemicals too.

Listen once a week

Re: Life at 33 1/3: Hey! Hey! They were good! (PM Friday, 19 July 2013) - I
absolutely agree 100%; I listen to that album at least once a week... I have
always loved that album, even as a child in the 70’s. Yes I just missed The
Monkees when they were originally on TV, but watched all the reruns, and
still do on You Tube, and found out what a hero Michael Nesmith is to The
Monkees (he put his fist through the wall), and basically invented MTV in
the late 70’s and now with Videoranch... I have a new found love and respect
for The Monkees. Thank you for a wonderful article.

Re: Foreigners can own condos here (PM Mailbag Friday, 12 July 2013) - I
certainly wasn’t made aware that I was being sold my condo in a Thai company
name; from what I can gather, this ‘company’ is ‘dormant’ and is being used
as a ruse by the people who sold it to me. I’ve been told that the foreign
quota is full at the complex where my room is. I can’t take legal action
against them till I return to Jomtien in 3 years time; or unless I come into
an unexpected fortune... See you in 3 years then with my lawyers... unless
my claim for compensation will have become dormant during this time lapse.

If it appears too good to be true …
Editor;
Re: Who owns my condo? (PM Hillary Friday, 05 July 2013) - What you need to
know is that if the condo is held in “company name” there is an annual
corporate tax on your condo as well. You must make arrangements to pay the
corporate tax from overseas as assessed by the Land Office. Sorry for more
bad news friend, but always remember the old saying: “If it appears too good
to be true...it usually is.”

Influence did go both ways
Editor;
Re: Pekka Astrom’s reply to Life at 33 1/3: The abdication of the Lizard
King (PM Life at 33 1/3 Friday, 12 July 2013) - The influence did go both
ways I’d say. The Brits took their influence from American rhythm & blues,
blues, soul and rock’n’roll. By 1965 the Americans started waking up. It was
no coincidence that Bob Dylan named his first 1965-album “Bringing It All
Back Home”. From 1966 onwards the Americans were mixing their own medicine
as much as they were downing the British imports. Rock music became a
dialogue between the American and British scenes.

Rentals sneaking back
Editor;
Re: No waiting allowed (PM Mailbag Friday, 12 July 2013) - They removed all
the rental bikes and cars (from Beach Road) twice to my knowledge in the
1990s and it transformed the place. Of course it only lasted a few days
before they were sneaking back in and blocking up everywhere again.

You can’t live on gratitude forever
Editor;
Re: Be careful what you tweet (PM Mailbag Friday, 12 July 2013) - There is
no doubt America is a great & powerful nation. When the rest of the world
was on their knees the US mobilised their war machine and came to the
rescue. But you can’t live on gratitude forever. With their bullish attitude
they have now alienated most of the world. Spied on other countries &
created tension with China’s handling of Snowden (now old news).
For years they have rode rough shod over Latin America, arming some &
invading others. They are now accused of spying on Brazil who is their 4th
largest trading partner, Venezuela is their 4th largest petroleum supplier.
With Nicaragua talking of a new canal 3 times longer then the Panama being
financed jointly with China things could cause more tension for US.
Closer to my home, Telstra has been accused of supplying information to the
NSA. There is talk of US marines deploying in Darwin. This is a blatant
raspberry to China. However, we recently conducted joint military exercises
with China (China is one of our major trading partners).
The US came to our rescue in ‘42 and we have followed them into most of
their wars since. With America’s attitude, South America could become their
next Vietnam, covertly armed by China. America is at a crossroad and is not
sure which road to take. I wish them luck and hope they pick the straight &
narrow.

Congratulations Pattaya Mail
In all the 16 years I have visited Pattaya, and living
here most that time, Pattaya Mail has been my source of news and what is
going on, both in print and on the internet.
And with Hillary’s guidance, I have not made too many
mistakes. Keep going strong, as I still need your support to live the good
life for several years more.

Dear Pattaya Mail
Congratulations on your 20th anniversary on the 23rd
July. I have been reading your publication since I lived and worked in
Thailand in 1998, and even when I am back in the UK one of the first things
I read online on a Friday morning is the digital edition of the Pattaya
Mail, just to keep up with the local happenings and of course enjoy my
personal favorites “Mail Bag”, “Life in Fun City” and Khun Ocha’s Cookbook.
Regards,
Rob P and here’s to the next 20 years!
Congratulations on 20 years of Pattaya Mail. I have been
reading Pattaya Mail for 9 years myself and I have always enjoyed the read.
Pattaya Mail is my favorite Thailand newspaper and I always purchase it when
in Pattaya and read it on-line when I am at home in Canada. Looking forward
to the next 20 years of Pattaya Mail.

I’ve been reading PM for the past 8 years or so and have
enjoyed it immensely - especially the ‘important parts’ - Life in Fun City,
Wombania & Hillary. The week isn’t complete without them.
Here looking forward to 20 more.
