An international organization dedicated to improving health and
well-being of people through education, community action and public
policy will hold its annual global meeting in Pattaya Aug. 25-29.
Up to 3,000 people are expected to attend the International Union for
Health Promotion and Education’s World Conference on Health Promotion at
the Royal Cliff Peach Convention Center. Top Chonburi and Pattaya
officials met June 4 to continue planning for the event, which is
cosponsored by the Thai Health Promotion Foundation.

Chonburi Deputy Gov. Pongsak Preechawit followed up
on earlier directives to Pattaya Deputy Mayor Ronakit Ekasingh on plans
for security, traffic management, and health care.
Ronakit also briefed attendees on plans for “culture night,” a showpiece
recreational activity that will see Pattaya school children put on stage
performances.
The IUHPE meeting will serve as a forum to highlight contrasting and
challenging views and offer a platform for exchange and debate on
mainstream and alternative perspectives. The various sessions will
provide a mixture of practical lessons from global, national and
regional experiences.
The conference’s agenda seeks to examine the best investments for
health, the different views that shape health policy, investors in
health-promotion systems, challenges to developing and implementing
health policies, and innovations transforming health promotion.
Speakers will include World Bank President Jim Yong Kim; Somsook
Boonyabancha, secretary-general of the Asian Coalition for Housing
Rights; John Frank, director of the Scottish Collaboration for Public
Health Research and Policy; and Sergio Fajardo Valderrama, governor of
Antioquia, and others.
