Mayor hands out relief bags, reassurances to flood victims

After handing out relief supplies
to flood victims, the mayor tells the people that city hall is working on the
chronic flooding problem.
Thanachot Anuwan
Pattaya officials distributed relief supplies to 190 homes hit by
flooding in Central Pattaya.
Mayor Itthiphol Kunplome and city council members visited Pacific Village, which
lies between Second and Third roads in North Pattaya, June 14, handing out bags
of food and necessities, as well as some assurance that city hall was working on
the chronic flooding problem.
Two days of heavy rain June 12-13 left the low-lying neighborhood under water,
as Pattaya’s infrastructure remains incapable of handling more than two hours of
steady heavy rain. City engineers laid concrete blocks to divert runoff from
future storms from streaming through the village.
Itthiphol told residents Pattaya is investing 27 million baht in new flood
control pipelines running from the railroad tracks in East Pattaya to Sukhumvit
Road that will collect the runoff that currently swamps Pacific Village.
