On his weekly TV program “Return Happiness to the People”, Gen Prayuth commented on the rape and murder of a 13-year-old girl on board a train from Nakhon Si Thammarat to Bangkok last week, saying the incident was regrettable and extremely distressing as the girl was yet another innocent victim of social violence. Thus, he said he had asked judicial officers to expedite their processing of the case in order to punish the culprit as soon as possible.
Following the tragedy, Gen Prayuth insisted that moral conscience needed to be instilled in Thai society while anyone committing a crime should be able to take responsibility for his or her action. All public members were also encouraged to contribute to future crime prevention efforts.
In the meantime, the NCPO Chief called on all media to refrain from presenting sexually provocative contents to their audiences, reasoning that such materials did not conform to the beautiful culture of Thailand and would not help in the effort to end sex crimes.
