Luxury property developer Tulip Group recently announced that August Design and P49 “Deesign” have been awarded contracts for their luxurious mixed used project in Na Jomtien.

Tulip Group will build two towers for luxury condominiums which will be branded as Centara Grand Residence Pattaya, and a third tower for a 5 star luxury hotel named Centara Grand Resort and Spa Jomtien.

Located in Na Jomtien the 19 rai beachfront site with 150m of beach frontage will offer the latest in stunning architecture design, with the towers being originally designed by world class architects HB design from Singapore.

The entire project will include over 18,000 SQM of landscaping, swimming pools, restaurants and numerous other world class facilities, and the entire project will be managed by Centara Hotels and resorts on completion.

“We are delighted to be working with two such prestigious and well known design companies. Both have worked with Centara Hotels and Resorts before, and both have an impressive track record and customer portfolio,” said Tulip Group Vice President Jason Payne.

August Design Consultant is a full service interior design company and is headed by Pongthep Sagulku and his associates. All staff are fully accredited interior designers with vast experience in all styles of design work.

“The company philosophy is quite simple and straight forward. We always aim to design spaces and things according to the appropriated architectural context, requirement, budget without any preconception in mind and if possible, we try to keep our design as simple as possible so that they always have a certain aspect, durability and timelessness, and above all, we do believe in quality rather than quantity,” said Pongthep.

Current clientele include the hospitality management such as Starwood, Marriot, Hilton, Accor, Ascott, Anantara.

P49 Deesign specializes in working with the very best hotels and resorts, both in Thailand and throughout the world. In fact, 80 percent of its projects are located outside Thailand. Clients include top hotel chains such as InterContinental, Six Senses and Four Seasons. P49 Deesign is Thailand’s foremost interior design practice. Founded by Vipavadee “Pao” Patpongpibul in 1979, the company is unique, with unparalleled experience in hotels, resorts, spas, and the corporate and banking sectors.

Construction will commence in the last quarter 2012 and completion is scheduled for 2015.

Travel business expert predicts Thai purchasing power to drop 30%

A travel business expert has predicted that the purchasing power of Thai consumers will soon drop significantly due to a number of risk factors.

Krit Patarapal, Managing Director of P.K. Exhibition Management Company and the organizer of the tourism promotion event “Thai Teaw Thai”, said that Thailand will likely be under pressure from deflation at least until next year.

He believes that Thai consumers’ purchasing power will drop around 30 percent, mainly due to 3 worrying factors. They are natural disasters, economic conditions and political uncertainties.

Krit suggested that travel business operators and related entrepreneurs should come up with more appealing events, which focus on respective seasons, in order to convince travelers that their money will be well-spent.

He also called for new holiday destinations as alternatives to existing locations while easing on the pricing strategy.

And as a boost during the low travel season, Krit said that a special tourism promotion event has been scheduled from July 5 to 8 at Queen Sirikit Center in Bangkok.

He expects as many as 100,000 visitors, who will spend around 200-300 million baht altogether, during the 4-day event.

Moreover, a big holiday extravaganza is set to take place either in August or September, with more than 400,000 visitors likely to check out some 1,300 booths from travel-related businesses and spend approximately 500 million baht on holiday plans. (NNT)

Commerce Ministry: Thailand & Côte d´Ivoire agree on USD145mil rice trade deal

The Commerce Ministry has announced its success in its direct sales of rice to the government of C๔te d’Ivoire, worth more than a hundred million US dollars.

Commerce Minister Boonsong Teriyapirom revealed on Friday that Foreign Trade Department Director-General Manat Soiploy and Secretary to the Commerce Minister Verawoot Vatjanapukka traveled to C๔te d’Ivoire to settle a G-to-G rice trade negotiation from June 26 to 28.

The latest negotiation was the continuation of the talks the Commerce Ministry earlier held with the Minister of Trade of C๔te d’Ivoire in Thailand.

Boonsong said that the Thai delegation has successfully concluded the deal, which involves 240,000 tons of 4 different types of Thai rice worth 145 million dollars.

The Commerce Minister said that the successful rice trade with C๔te d’Ivoire, which is the first G2G trade between the two countries, will pave way to more deals in the future.

According to Boonsong, C๔te d’Ivoire imports around 900,000 tons of rice each year, 58 percent of which comes from Thailand. (NNT)

Thailand to negotiate with EU on generalized system of preferences

Thailand’s Trade Negotiations Department has been assigned to speed up its negotiations with the European Union (EU) on its new generalized system of preferences (GSP) in order that some Thai merchandise items would be listed under such a system.

The EU’s new tariff under the new GSP will take effect in 18 months. Fifty-seven Thai items are likely to be dropped from the new GSP.

Commerce Minister Boonsong Teriyapirom said the Thai delegation will travel to Europe at the end of July in order to clarify to its delegates that some of the Thai goods should still be maintained in the GSP list for Thai entrepreneurs to compete.

Thailand’s income per capita currently exceeds US$3,700/year, the amount indicated by the EU for countries to receive its generalized system of preferences.

Regarding the ongoing H1N1 pandemic in China which might affect Thai chicken exports to the EU, Boonsong said he believed such goods will not be impacted. Thailand’s poultry farming is managed under a closed system with controllable prevention, he said.

The European Union re-started importing Thai chicken from July 1 after imposing a ban since 2004 due to the pandemic at that time in the country. (MCOT)
