With as many as five Chonburi districts facing drought
conditions, officials are mobilizing manpower and equipment to help those
facing water shortages.
Complying with an Interior Ministry directive, Chonburi
Gov. Khomsan Ekachai led a video-conference meeting of provincial
politicians and bureaucrats at Phra Pipith Phokhai Hall to discuss measures
that could be taken to ease suffering.
The ministry ordered Chonburi and other drought-hit
provinces to mobilize manpower, equipment, water trucks and pumps, and other
transport to bring water to areas where there was little.
Khomsan urged the Provincial Waterworks Authority to
increase the amount of hard water it cleans for consumption and the Public
Health Department to begin health checks, as diseases can increase during
hot months, he said.
Sriracha, Koh Sichang and Koh Jan have already been
declared drought zones and Nong Yai and some of Sattahip may soon get
similar designations. (CPRD)
