Apparently some bars didn’t get the memo that it is now illegal to sell
alcohol on Buddhist holidays. Police reminded them that ignorance of the law
is no excuse, arresting 3 proprietors.

Three Thai bar owners who didn’t give up alcohol for
Buddhist Lent were arrested for selling it to foreign tourists.
Nares Sangdang, 23, and Somchai Schaufelberger, 35, -
proprietors of two bars in the Best Friend beer bar complex on Beach
Road, were arrested early July 16 serving up brews to non-Buddhist
visitors to the city looking for a cold beverage on their holiday.
Police later raided the Le Katai Bar on Soi Lenki,
arresting owner Kalya Nuanpho, 36, for doing similarly.
Alcohol sales were banned on Buddhist Lent with
violators technically subject to fines of 1,000 baht and up to six
months in prison.
