Royal Thai Navy rugby players congratulated former
admiral Surapol Chandang for winning the election to represent Sattahip in
Parliament.
Adm. Supakorn Buranadilok, representing the president of
the navy’s Rugby Club, and Vice Adm. Kiatisak Damapong, president of the
navy’s rugby subcommittee, led their team July 19 in congratulating Surapol,
one of their former instructors.
The former admiral’s navy credentials were credited in
giving the red-shirt aligned Pheu Thai Party a rare win in military-strong
Sattahip. He beat the second-place candidate from home-grown Chonburi party
Palang Chon 25,268 to 21,184 votes.
Thailand’s Election Commission has certified Surapol’s
win, along with those of Chonburi Power Party Zone 7 winner Poramet
Ngampichet and party list candidate Sansak Charunngampichet. The election of
five other Palang Chon winners are still awaiting Election Commission
approval.
Supakorn said he was happy to see the team’s former
instructor win an MP seat. Surapol had been with the team during its 10
championships.
