More than 200 hotel executives and business-travel planners descended on Pattaya for the Thailand Convention and Exhibition Bureau’s “Meetings Industry Day” to learn about Pattaya’s potential in the “meetings, incentives, conventions and exhibitions” sector.
TCEB Director Noparat Maethaweekullachai presided over the Aug. 22-23 meeting at the Royal Cliff’s PEACH Convention Center, attended by general managers of Pattaya’s largest hotels.
Noparat said TCEB organized the meeting to stimulate network building and forge business relationships in hopes of pushing Pattaya’s 2013 MICE revenue to 88 billion baht.
So far, Pattaya has attracted 594,242 business guests responsible for 52.8 billion baht in MICE revenue. City leaders hope to attract 949,000 convention-goers by year-end.
TCEB officials noted the city has 396 hotels with 28,459 rooms, 102 conferences rooms and three large conference halls and exhibition centers offering 13,212 sq. meters of floor space.
“The goal of Meetings Industry Day 2013 is an operation called ‘Win, Promote, Develop’,” Noparat said. “TCEB has focused on promoting and building strength for the MICE sector to win the approval MICE organizers at regional and national levels, including elevating the talents, potential development, and activities value to increase the number of MICE tourists and income.”
Topics covered during the symposium were “MICE Tendencies and Direction,” “Auctioning for International Conferences,” and “Organizing Conferences and Corporate Meeting & Incentives.”
