A lightning strike at PTT
Plc’s gas-separation plant in Maptaput is causing a nationwide LPG
shortage.

A lightning strike at a Rayong liquid petroleum gas plant
destroyed a major gas-separation facility, creating a nationwide fuel
shortage for up to five months.
PTT Plc said its fifth gas-separation plant at its Maptaput complex was
knocked out by the Aug. 15 lightning strike, forcing it to cut back
industrial LPG supplies and import gas for three to five months while
repairs are completed.
Capacity at the PTT plant accounts for 25 percent of the 300,000 tons of
LPG produced in Thailand. Supplies are expected to be cut 75,000 tons a
month.
To make up the shortfall, PTT will be forced to import 40,000 tons of
gas and cut redistribute another 30,000 tons from industrial customers
to residential neighborhoods.
