Pattaya’s police are cracking down on pharmacies selling sedatives in
order to curb the number of prostitutes drugging and robbing tourists.
At a Feb. 26 Police Administration Audit and Monitoring Committee, Pattaya
Police Superintendent Col. Suwan Cheaonawinthawat said the Crime Suppression
unit have been raiding drug stories selling Alprazolam, the generic version
of Xanax used most often to drug tourists.
Suwan said traffic has been another top priority since he took over as
police chief in December. Officers are focusing on rush-hour routes and have
requested rubber cones and steel gates from city hall to manage the flow of
cars and motorbikes.
Mayor Itthiphol Kunplome found no major issues with the police chief’s
report and said any small matters would be discussed in private.
