Representatives from a Thailand-based global network of organizations
working to eliminate child prostitution met in Pattaya to educate public
officials and social workers on trafficking, exploitation and child rights.
Phusa Sriwilas and Kessanee Jantrakul of ECPAT International spoke to
representatives from the Macy Foundation, World Ministry Foundation, Hand to
Hand Foundation and the Social Development and Human Stability Ministry to offer
knowledge protecting children’s rights and to brainstorm ideas on how to
eliminate child prostitution and abuse.
Phusa said the “children’s rights contract” is a “contract between nations” that
children from all countries are entitled to certain rights from birth and that
member countries must act to protect those rights.
ECPAT - which stands for Eliminate Child Prostitution in Asia Tourism - now
works around the world as ECPAT International to promote its four principals
that there should be no discrimination against children in protecting their
rights; children must be the first priority before the law; that governments
must foster the development of health, mind and emotions; and children have the
right to express their opinions in making a decision.
