An Australian woman who lost 10 million baht in
jewelry in a September burglary found her missing gold and diamonds on
sale at a North Pattaya shop.
Jacqueline Christopher, 60, called police to a jewelry shop in the
Tesco-Lotus shopping mall Oct. 29. On display were 11 gold necklaces,
diamond pendants, two gold bracelets, five gold pendants, five diamond
rings, and a pair of gold earrings. All the items had been stolen from
her Rapiporn Village 2 home on Soi Khaonoi Sept. 28.
Christopher said she and her husband, Sarawut Sukhmuen, had been
searching local jewelry stores since the burglary, doubtful the police
would recover their goods. They were shopping at Tesco-Lotus when they
just happened by the shop and saw their jewelry.
A shop employee said the owner, had purchased the jewelry from a
middle-aged Thai man who came into the shop recently. However, no
closed-circuit television camera footage was available.
Police later arrested the owner of the jewelry shop and charged her with
receiving stolen property.
