Students from Garden International School (GIS) had a
seriously-spooky Halloween.
As well as some freaky-looking IB students, teachers and helpers also got
dressed up. Activities included bobbing for apples, face painting and other
traditional Halloween games. GIS is based in Ban Chang, near Pattaya.

Sport for all at Regent’s School Pattaya

Regent’s students focus as they
have their eye on the prize.
The Regent’s School Pattaya kick started its jam-packed month
of sporting events by holding its first ever Secondary Sports Day last
Wednesday. The day saw students fully enjoying the buzz of competition which
will likely continue to become a new annual event to add to The Regent’s ever
increasing list of activities.
All students throughout the Secondary School took part in a combination of
events that included athletics, dodge ball and cross country running that worked
on a rotational basis, so everyone got a chance to compete in the event that
they wanted.
Separated into three age groups, to ensure fair competition, U13s, U15s and
Seniors played with a great sense of team spirit as they gave their sporting all
to represent their house teams. The Regent’s sporting grounds and sports hall
became a sea of green, yellow, blue and red t-shirts which the students wore
with pride, knowing that their points contributed towards a final score for
their respective houses. Inspired by this year’s Olympic Games in London, shot
put and long jump were introduced to the athletics events - fully utilizing the
school’s new long jump sand pit.
The day ended with a very exciting tug of war completion that saw students and
teachers work together for their houses, vying for those final points of the
day. In the end it was yellow house that came away with the most points. Thanks
to the dedication and hard work of the PE department, with a special mention of
Mrs. Ainsley Harris, the day was a great success that was enjoyed by all.
November will also see The Regent’s host what should prove to be a successful
U15’s FOBISSEA Games on 15th November whereby five schools from South East Asia
join to take part in sporting competitions that includes swimming, athletics,
football and basketball.
All the photos from the Sports Day can be seen on the Regent’s Pattaya Facebook
page.

At the end of the day, it is all
about teamwork.

Halloween and IKEA arrive in Pattaya

IKEA’s blueberry muffins were
delicious.
Derek Franklin
The afternoon of Halloween was a very exciting time at the Father Ray
Day Care Center as the older children had their faces painted in a variety of
animals, pirates and ghosts. The children ran around scaring each other and
everyone was having a great time until they went downstairs to visit the younger
children, who all ran crying and screaming for cover when they saw what was
coming towards them.
Chaos ensued as the older children, forgetting their painted faces, tried to
comfort the younger children whose screams just got louder.
Things soon went very quiet when a delivery man from IKEA in Bangna arrived,
carrying several boxes of blueberry muffins, courtesy of the stores manager.
Within seconds the tears and screaming had ceased and there was silence.

Unfortunately the younger children
were terrified.

Students from Garden International School (GIS) learned about how to stay safe
online thanks to a special presentation from a guest speaker.
Margie Granger from the Hand to Hand Foundation gave a presentation on Cyber
Safety to students from Years 4 and up on October 17. After school she also gave
a presentation and led a discussion with all GIS teachers.
The students learned about the need to be careful when online and with personal
information in general. To show its appreciation GIS, which is based in Ban
Chang near Pattaya, had a Mufti Day on October 17 which raised 20,680 baht to
support this worthy charity.
The community also helped out with donations, including 100 handmade Thai
blankets provided by Fairway. The school’s front office was packed with donated
goods which we delivered to Hand to Hand Foundation during the half-term break.
