Pattaya citizens recently made merit celebrating 30 years
of Burphajan Day along with donating nearly 700,000 baht as scholarships for
monks and Pattaya students.
The South Pattaya temple marked the 30th anniversary of
the death of former abbot Wibulsangkhakan Sept. 22 with the annual
Nitthipariyatthum scholarship presentation to more than 40 monks who passed
Prien Dharma exams levels 1-3.
Following the presentation, Pisanjariyaphiwat, Naklua
chief of monks opened a donation ceremony for area Buddhists looking to make
merit. He collected 690,000 baht for 690 1,000 baht scholarships for
students at Pattaya’s 11 public schools and the Wat Chaimongkol Preschool.
Leading donators included Phaibun and Sumrang Saengjan,
Uthai and Chat Khakhay, Cha-onn Jitpluem, and Jumnong and Aumsa, who donated
a total of 570,000 baht. The rest came from the temple’s chief abbot fund.
