BANGKOK, Thailand – Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul delivered a national address on World Water Day, March 22, under the theme “Water and Gender Equality,” and reaffirmed the importance of equitable access to clean water.

The Prime Minister noted that this year’s theme highlights the disproportionate impact of water scarcity on women and girls. He emphasized that everyone, regardless of gender or age, must have equitable access to water resources and a voice in their management.

The Prime Minister stressed that climate change has intensified water-related disasters, such as droughts, floods, and water pollution, which affect economic stability, food security, and quality of life. These impacts are not evenly distributed, and vulnerable communities, especially women, face greater burdens in securing water, meeting household needs, and managing increased health and safety risks.

The Prime Minister stated that the government is committed to long-term, systemic water management and infrastructure development. Thailand also continues to strengthen international and regional cooperation to exchange knowledge, technology, and best practices. A key priority is promoting gender balance in water management forums to foster a more inclusive and secure society.

The Prime Minister concluded by inviting all sectors of society to recognize the intrinsic value of water. He urged the public to help conserve and restore national water resources to ensure their sustainable use for future generations. (NNT)
