BANGKOK, 22 March 2014 The Ruling Pheu Thai Party says it disagrees with the Charter Court’s decision to have the February 2nd election nullified.

The Pheu Thai Party has detailed its opposition to the Constitutional Court ruling. According to the Pheu Thai spokesperson Prompong Nopparit, the Ombudsman did not have the power to seek the court ruling, and the Charter Court did not have the authority to accept the case.

He said the court’s decision would cause more problems and upset those people who exercised their voting rights on Feb 2nd, adding that if the next election was again obstructed by the People’s Democratic Reform Committee (PDRC), the election would have to be invalidated again.

The comment came shortly after the court had released its verdict. The court voted 6 to 3 to nullify the February 2nd general election, reasoning that it was unconstitutional as the poll wasn't held on one single day as required under Section 108 of the Constitution
