BANGKOK, 24 September 2013 The National Security Council (NSC) has revealed that the next round of peace talk with the rebel group Barisan Revolusi Nasional (BRN) is scheduled for the third week of October.

NSC Chief Lieutenant General Paradorn Pattanathabutr said the talk will likely be dominated by the discussions on the group’s previous five demands and renewed attacks during the holy month of Ramadan.

On Tuesday, Army Chief General Prayuth Chan-ocha commented on the five demands submitted by the BRN, saying that it is unlikely that Thailand will transform the three southern border provinces into a special administrative zone. He cited the region’s financial concerns as a primary reason.

Security agencies earlier said they were preparing their own list of conditions, to be presented at the next meeting.
