BANGKOK, 9 March 2012  – The Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives is currently gearing itself up with an action plan to handle possible impacts of the global climate change on the agricultural sector.

Deputy Permanent Secretary for Agriculture and Cooperatives Niwat Sutheemeechaikul has revealed that the ministry is currently preparing to draft an action plan on agricultural impact from global climate change 2012-2016 in order to ready Thailand’s agricultural sector for the complications which might be brought on by climate change. The plan includes adapting to the climate change, improving the sector’s green house gas emission, and managing climate change strategies.

In order to create food and energy security, the ministry will also focus on environmental-friendly agricultural produce and green-house gas reduction. Personnel of the agricultural sector, including farmers, ministerial officials and other relevant parties, will be educated on the issue of climate change as well as on an integration of scientific and technological knowledge and local wisdom.
