Following reports from four Korean victims, police staked out the Bay Beach Hotel and arrested Cho Beon Jun, 32, and Ji Un Ho, 33. Officers seized various pieces of gold jewelry, six mobile phones, 128,000 Korean won, 6,000 baht, two fake passports and a stun gun.
Police charged the Koreans with assault, robbery, over-staying their visas and using fraudulent passports.
Both suspects confessed and ratted out two alleged Thai partners. They said the four worked together, with Cho befriending countrymen on Walking Street. Pretending to be a tour guide, he had Ji pick up the victims in a mini-bus to take them back to their hotel.
On the way, however, Ji pulled over to give a ride to the two Thai men. Pulling in to a dark soi, the Thais then robbed the tourists under threat of being shocked by the stun gun. The four split the proceeds, the suspects admitted.
Police charged the Koreans with assault, robbery, over-staying their visas and using fraudulent passports. The hunt for the Thai accomplices continues.
