Boonlua Chatree
Police arrested the alleged burglar who stole gold and an
iPad from a French-Thai couple, as well as the pawn shop owner who bought the
stolen goods.
Supharit Topha, 21, was apprehended Sept. 6 after leaving the
Ban Khom Khong Kao pawn shop where he allegedly fenced a new iPad and two gold
rings stolen from the Pratamnak Soi 5 home of 56-year-old Frenchman and his Thai
wife. Supharit also allegedly stole three candlesticks.
Police said the suspect confessed, saying he recently was
released from prison, where he served time for stealing a motorbike, and had no
money.
Pattaya Police Superintendent Col. Thummanoon Mankhong said
the pawn shop owner was arrested after investigators discovered the shop was
buying items without asking for identification from the sellers. The police
chief pledged a crackdown on pawn shops in the city.
