Phakphum
Khumchoey has been arrested for his alleged involvement in drug smuggling
into Chonburi Prison.
Boonlua Chatree
Police have arrested the alleged deliveryman for a drug
dealer operating from behind bars at Chonburi Prison.
Phakphum Khumchoey, 28, was apprehended Sept. 6 during a
sting operation in his native Chachoengsao. Officers found 1,400
methamphetamine tablets in his Isuzu Triton pickup truck.
Pattaya Police Superintendent Col. Thummanoon Mankhong
said Phakphum became a suspect after being named by a number of lower-level
drug dealers arrested previously in Pattaya. He is believed to deliver drugs
as ordered by a Chonburi Prison inmate known only as “Deer.”
Pattaya police used undercover operatives to arrange a
drug purchase from Deer and were given a meeting point in Chachoengsao.
Phakphum appeared at the meeting point with the drugs and was arrested,
police said.
Under questioning, investigators said, Phakphum confessed
to working for Deer for some time and periodically was assisted by the
inmate’s wife, who police are now seeking.
