of the 83rd Anniversary of His birth. Long Live His

His Majesty the King’s birthday is
Sunday, Dec. 5, and since the occasion falls on a Sunday
this year, Monday Dec 6 has been designated as the
national public holiday. As such all government offices,
banks and many businesses will be closed, although many
bank branches in shopping malls may be open to cater to
foreign exchange. Shopping centers and most exchange
booths throughout the city will be open. Places of
entertainment are usually open without restriction.

25,000 turn out to give alms to 2,000 monks

About 25,000 people turned out to give alms to 2,000 Buddhist
monks on a mission to help less-fortunate brethren. The huge merit-making
event in front of Pattaya City Hall Nov. 27 saw the crowd, dressed
predominantly in white, donate rice and dried goods to support a nationwide
drive by a million monks to provide relief to 286 embattled Buddhist temples
in Thailand’s Muslim-dominated south. Continued |
