Pattaya plans day of celebration
Sunday Dec. 5 to mark HM the King’s birthday
Public holiday Monday, Dec. 6 in lieu
Pattaya will mark His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej’s
83rd birthday Sunday, Dec. 5 with ceremonies and a parade along Beach Road.
Festivities begin at 3 p.m. in front of Tourism Authority
of Thailand’s Pattaya office where runners will gather to hold a Birthday
Run to honor His Majesty the King. The runners will run down Pratamnak Road
past Pattaya School No. 8, up Second Road up to Central Road, turn left to
Beach Road, all the way down passed Walking Street to Bali Hai Pier and up
the hill to finish at the TAT office. A total of 8 km.
The celebration’s finale will kick off at 4.30 p.m. with
a parade starting at Royal Garden Plaza and finishing at Bali Hai Pier.
Mayor Itthiphol Kunplome will preside over the ceremonies to pay homage and
pledge allegiance to HM the King.
Festivities will be capped by candle-lighting and songs
of praise and loyalty at 8 p.m.
Since His Majesty’s birthday falls on a Sunday this year,
Monday Dec 6 has been designated as the Father’s Day public holiday, and as
such all government offices, banks and many businesses will be closed. Many
bank branches in shopping malls may be open to cater to foreign exchange.
Shopping centers and most exchange booths throughout the city will be open.
Places of entertainment are usually open without restriction.

Announcements
The New Zealand-Thai Chamber of Commerce (NZTCC)
has announced the expansion of its presence to the Eastern Seaboard. Newly
elected committee member Richard Prouse (of the Sutlet Group, who opened
their Pattaya branch recently), will be the local representative for the
Chamber. There will be a Pattaya and Eastern Seaboard networking evening on
Thursday December 9th at the Amari Orchid Resort & Tower, Beach Road,
Pattaya (in the Garden Lounge from 6.30 p.m. to 8.30 p.m.) and all are

Events
The Father Ray Foundation SOS Rice Appeal 2010
will be taking place over the weekend of the 3rd to the 6th December in
commemoration of the birthday of His Majesty the King. The Foundation
appeals to the people of Pattaya to help it feed the 850 children and
students who rely on the assistance they receive. Local supermarkets have
agreed to help by allowing volunteers to collect rice from its customers
over these four days, and we ask that you show your support by donating a
bag of rice. Supermarkets taking part in the SOS Rice Appeal 2010 are local
branches of Big C (North & South Pattaya), Carrefour, Central Food Halls,
Foodland, Friendship, Makro, Villa Market, Tesco Lotus (North & South
Pattaya), Tesco Express and TOPS (Central Pattaya & Tuk Com). For more

The Lighthouse Club Pattaya is holding a “Movers
& Shakers 2010” charity networking evening on Friday, December 3 at the
Centara Grand Mirage Pattaya - an event jointly-promoted with the
British Chamber of Commerce and AustCham. Beginning at 6 p.m. with a welcome
reception and live music entertainment, the evening will progress with a
ballroom party and food plus an exciting fashion show, more networking and
tunes into the wee hours. A full bar will be available with Carlsberg Beer
on draft; red and white wine; plus a superb flow of fine food buffet
items... all free with the cost of admission! Admission fees are: THB 750

Clubs and Associations
The next meeting of Pattaya City Expats Club (PCEC) will be on Sunday,
December 5. Everyone is warmly welcome. The speaker will be John Ryan, a
person experienced in the use of Lie Detectors. He will be giving an
interesting talk about “Truth Verification.” The Club meets every
Sunday morning at the Tavern by the Sea Restaurant located on the north end
of Beach Road (part of the Amari Orchid Resort). The program starts as usual
at 10:30 a.m. with a buffet breakfast available from 9 to 11 a.m. Each week
the PCEC usually has an interesting speaker to talk on various subjects of
interest in an informal setting. The program is followed by the ever lively
and often humorous Open Forum where questions are asked and answers given
about living in Pattaya as well as an update on events in and around Pattaya.

For the past 28 years the Samaritans of Thailand
have been providing confidential crisis intervention services over the
telephone. The English-speaking unit, Samaritans English Help Line operates
24 hours a day, 7 days a week to provide support to the expatriate
community. English-speaking staff, trained in crisis intervention will
provide active, non-judgmental and empathetic listening services on the
phone. All calls will be handled on an anonymous basis and are free of

The Rotary Club Pattaya Marina meets every Friday
at 7.00 p.m. at the Pullman Aisawan, Wongamat Beach, between Soi 16 and 18
