Environmental impact of construction

Editor;
The ongoing construction throughout the seaside resort of Pattaya is starting to take its toll on the environment. Recent rains have washed a lot of the dust and silt around the town into the bay. Seasonal tidal changes have been pushing this slurry onto Jomtien beach and there are tonnes of sediment spread over a few kilometers a few metres below the high tide mark. There are already various forms of marine life settling into this sediment which will inevitably change the aesthetic appeal of the beach.
Too much construction is leading towards irreparable damage of the environment. Unless steps are taken to curb what leads to such destruction, another natural beauty is going to be ruined by a lack of forethought.

Petrol station rip-off cont

Editor;
In the 3-9 Nov edition in Mailbag Dave S. advised us of his rip-off experience at the petrol station. I also had one but a bit different. This happened at another filling station on Sukhumvit in Pattaya. I told the attendant to fill it up which he did. Normally when you get it filled they try to round it off to the nearest 10 baht without dribbling too much down the side of your car. When the attendant came to collect the money he said it was 718 baht! I thought that was strange but that’s what was on the pump. I gave him 1000 baht and when he brought the change he gave me 2 hundred notes and the rest in assorted coins. I guess he thought most people wouldn’t bother to count the change but I did and it was 20 baht short. When I pointed this out to him he quickly gave me the 20 baht.

“A Fool and his money…”

Editor;
I was sorry to hear that Anthony Sawyer was robbed on Oct. 23. I do hope that the perpetrators of this crime are caught and punished, the money recovered.
Saying that, I find it almost unbelievable is that Mr. Sawyer would be out at 4 a.m. with over $8,300 in a carry bag. I cannot think of a good reason to be out on the streets of Pattaya, at that time of night, with that amount of money on them. The phrase that comes to mind: “A fool and his money are soon parted.”
