The Royal Thai Navy opened the Koh Khram Underwater Park to
increase understanding of Sattahip Bay’s marine ecosystem.
Capt. Samrerng Chanso, deputy chief of staff Region 1, presided over the
Oct. 15 dedication ceremony.
He said the underwater park on the large island is open weekends. To
reach Koh Khram, visitors catch a ferry at the Khao Mah Joh Pier in
Samae San. Fares are 200 baht for adults and 150 baht for children.
Snorkeling gear is available as well.
Koh Khram, long protected by the navy, is the primary breeding ground
for endangered green and hawksbill turtles. It is surrounded by a coral
reef that has been slowly dying due to environmental forces and
pollution.
