Food carts and traffic signs dominated the Pattaya City Council’s first
meeting of 2014, which also saw the approval of budgets for flood
control and marine-safety projects.
Councilman Banlue Kullavanijaya complained at the May 27 meeting that
the large number of rolling food carts continues to cause traffic
problems and wants regulations to manage the vendors.
Mayor Itthiphol Kunplome replied that regulations currently exist and
that the city has, and will continue to, take action against the trolley
owners to improve traffic conditions.
Councilman Sanit Boonmachai, meanwhile, proposed spending 19.5 million
baht on replacing directional and traffic signs in the East Pattaya
railroad-tracks area to bring them up to international standards.
Itthiphol said plans already are underway to remove old sign poles and
signs to not only meet international standards, but better withstand the
elements. Work currently is focused on the Krathinglai railroad-Huay Yai
intersection.
In other business, the council approved a 2.2 million budget for
installation of concrete-steel drainage pipes linking Soi Berd Inn to
the Jomtien Beach wastewater treatment plant. Budget changes for the Sea
Disaster Prevention Center and Social Development Office also were
approved.
