Tourism officials are looking to the domestic market to revive Pattaya’s tourist
sector, showing off the city at a Bangkok trade fair and launching a new weekday
travel promotion.
Pattanachart Kritdibaworn of the Tourism and Sports Ministry met with Tourism
Authority of Thailand Pattaya Director Auttaphol Wannakij and Pattaya Tourist
Police Chief Lt. Col. Arun Promphan May 27 to review progress on three
tourism-related initiatives.
Auttaphol reviewed plans for Pattaya’s exhibit at the Thailand Tourism Festival
at Bangkok’s Impact Arena, which wrapped up June 6. It was to be a major event
for TAT, the director said, with local businesses hosting booths to show off the
city’s tourism potential.
The ongoing “Let’s Tour on Weekdays” campaign aims to bring travelers to the
city during the week. Activities to drive the campaign include the summertime
Pattaya Grand Sale, Auttaphol said.
Finally, Arun reviewed progress on efforts to train volunteers to supplement
police in assisting tourists. He said there have been several training sessions,
each one producing volunteers who can help police maintain safety and offer
guidance to tourists.
