BANGKOK, Thailand – Director-General of the Department of Energy Business (DOEB) Sarawut Kaewtathip confirmed that Thailand maintains a robust fuel reserve sufficient for 103 days of consumption.
Following a meeting of the Joint Management and Monitoring Center for the Situation in the Middle East on March 22, 2026, the government issued a directive requiring all oil traders under Sections 7 and 10 of the Fuel Trade Act to publicly post retail prices and submit daily reports by 6 p.m. to ensure market transparency.
The Director-General reported that Thailand produces approximately 35.28 million liters of gasoline daily from five major refineries: Bangchak, Bangchak Sriracha, IRPC, SPRC, and Thai Oil. After ethanol blending for gasohol variants (91, 95, and E20), daily consumption is 34.41 million liters. Six refineries produce 79.91 million liters of diesel base fuel each day, meeting an average domestic demand of 67 to 70 million liters, with occasional peaks above 100 million liters.
In the investigation of Trillion Petro Trading Co., Ltd. in Ang Thong Province for alleged price gouging, the DOEB and police inspected the site on March 19. They collected samples of Gasohol 91, 95, and high-speed diesel for quality testing. Initial findings showed discrepancies between shipping documents and actual delivery locations. Further legal action will follow the final report.
To support the public, the DOEB partnered with the private sector to launch the “Pump Radar” application for real-time fuel tracking. The Ministry of Energy has also worked with the Ministries of Interior and Transport, the Royal Thai Police, and the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration to ease transport restrictions and speed up fuel distribution nationwide. Recent inspections of eight key depots in four provinces found no evidence of hoarding.
The Director-General emphasized that the 103-day national reserve includes 1,504 million liters of commercial stock, 3,389 million liters of legal reserve, and 4,200 million liters in transit, along with 3,700 million liters secured by contract. The Ministry remains committed to price stability and supply security to minimize public impact. (NNT)
