BANGKOK, Thailand – Sweden’s ambassador to Thailand has met with security officials in the southern border provinces to discuss regional conditions and expand cooperation across multiple sectors.
Ambassador Anna Hammargren recently held talks with Lt Gen Norathip Poinok, commander of the Fourth Army Area and director of the Internal Security Operations Command Region 4, at Sirindhorn Camp in Pattani province. The meeting was convened as part of her visit to Songkhla, Pattani, Yala, and Narathiwat, during which she and her delegation met with government agencies, academics, civil society groups, and religious leaders.
The discussions, covering security conditions and economic and social development at the community level, allow the Swedish delegation to observe ongoing efforts by local authorities and partners in the region.
Thai officials presented an approach that combines security operations with community engagement and development, including efforts to improve education, livelihoods, and public services. Authorities said long-term stability depends on cooperation across sectors and continued engagement to boost safety and public confidence in the southern border provinces. (NNT)
